What is a weekend warrior? A weekend warrior is someone who packs most of their physical activity into their free time — often going all-in on workouts or sports after being inactive during the week.
Weekend warrior syndrome happens when that pattern leads to a deconditioned body that is not prepared for sudden bursts of activity. This can increase the risk of injuries like ankle sprains, knee ligament injuries and overuse conditions such as tendonitis.
Those most at risk are adults — especially middle-aged and older individuals — who are largely sedentary during the week but highly active on weekends.
In this video, Dr. Torrance Laury, a non-operative sports medicine physician with Northside Hospital Orthopedics, shares practical tips on how to exercise safely, stay consistent and avoid weekend warrior injuries.
With the Northside Hospital Peachtree Road Race coming up on July 4, now is the perfect time to build a steady routine and prepare your body properly.
