How much protein do you need?

Protein plays a vital role in supporting muscles, tendons and ligaments while also helping you feel full and energized throughout the day.

In this video, Lauren Cicinelli, a registered dietitian with Northside Hospital Orthopedic Sports Medicine, explains how much protein most people need daily and offers simple ways to meet those needs through meals and snacks.

Cicinelli also shares snack options that provide 10 to 15 grams of protein, including cottage cheese, edamame, cheese slices and boiled eggs. She highlights how protein requirements can vary depending on life stage and activity level, including times of muscle building, adolescence, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
