What began as unimaginable heartbreak became a mission to create lasting change for families across Georgia.
Northside Hospital employee Kuleesha Milton turned the loss of her son, Gakobe “Kobe” Milton, into a powerful advocacy effort after he passed away from osteosarcoma in 2024. Despite enduring significant pain throughout his treatment, Gakobe remained committed to his education as a dedicated student, athlete, and source of inspiration to those around him.

Determined to honor her son’s perseverance and ensure other terminally ill students receive recognition for their hard work and academic dedication, Kuleesha appeared before Georgia lawmakers to advocate for change. Her efforts led to the passage of House Bill 1284, officially named the “Gakobe Milton Bill.”

Signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp on May 5, 2026, the legislation allows terminally ill students in Georgia to receive honorary diplomas recognizing their academic achievements and perseverance.
Through the Gakobe Strong Foundation, Kuleesha continues to uplift youth and families while ensuring Gakobe’s legacy lives on through advocacy, community outreach, and love.
Kuleesha works at Internal Medicine Associates of Lawrenceville.
