Cornerstone Society Gala
Each winter, the Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation hosts the Cornerstone Society Gala. This black-tie event is how we thank our donors who gave $1,000 or more during the previous calendar year. Donors can choose to give to a variety of healthcare initiatives.
The 2020 Cornerstone Society Gala
The Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation will host the 12th Annual Cornerstone Society Gala, which will be chaired by Susan and Jeff Wages on February 15, 2020.
Our celebrity guest and entertainer for the upcoming gala is Jon Dorenbos, one of the most sought after Keynote Speakers on the circuit entertaining and inspiring crowds from 500 to 10,000 around the country. Weaving his inspirational story with world-class magic, his energy is contagious and his passion for life infectious. After losing both parents at the age of 12, Jon spent a year in foster care before moving in with his aunt. With the attitude of “Live in vision, not in circumstance”, Jon rose above all odds to eventually earn two Pro Bowl appearances and a Super Bowl ring in his 14 year NFL career. Jon was forced to retire from the NFL when the New Orleans Saints diagnosed him with a life-threatening heart condition that required emergency open heart surgery. When asked about it, Jon saw the ‘magic’. “I was traded to New Orleans and my life was saved by a Saint. All of us have experienced hard times in our life. That’s something all of us can relate to. We then make a decision, do we become victims or do we become people of vision? That decision is what separates us.” Jon placed third on NBC’s hit TV show, America’s Got Talent, and is a regular on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. He was honored when asked to compete on America’s Got Talent: The Champions Edition and making it to the finals recognized him as 1 of the top 10 acts in the world. Academy Award nominated producer, Mike Tollin, is in the process of making a major motion picture based on Jon’s life.
In the past, special guest speakers and entertainers such as Jeff Foxworthy, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, Vince Gill, Seth Meyers, Dr. Ben Carson, Marcus Luttrell, Ted Koppel, Bob Woodruff, Frank Abagnale, James Carville and Mary Matalin have graced the stage at this prestigious event.
In addition to nationally-acclaimed speakers, musical entertainment and celebratory food and drink, the Gala also serves as a time for the Foundation to recognize individuals, couples or groups who make a vital difference to transforming healthcare at Gwinnett Medical Center and its community.
Congratulations to our 2019 Award recipients: Lisa Cink, The Legacy Award; Greg & Tammy Shumate, Distinguished Service Award; Dr. Carlton Buchanan, Physician Champion Award; and Pam Garrett, Desai Compassionate Care Award.
